Welcome to Year 1!
Dear Parents,
A warm welcome to Year One! I am delighted to share that the children have settled into class very well and are already enjoying their new environment and daily routine. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
Our topic this term is ‘A Wonderland of Books’, where we will be exploring a variety of stories, developing reading skills, and encouraging a love for literature. Throughout the term, your child will engage in activities that promote comprehension, vocabulary building, and creative thinking inspired by different books.
Reading Books:
Please ensure that your child brings their reading books into school every Monday. Each week, your child will be given two new books to practice at home. We encourage you to spend time reading together and discussing the stories, which greatly supports their learning progress. Please return both the books and the reading diary on the following Monday so that new books can be allocated.
Spellings:
Spellings for the week will be posted on Google Classroom. To support your child’s learning, please practice these regularly. Remember, practicing spelling does not always mean writing the words down; your child can also say the sounds aloud or play simple spelling games to reinforce their knowledge.
PE Lessons:
PE will take place on Wednesdays. Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit and ensure they bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during physical activities.
Upcoming Trip:
I am excited to inform you that we have arranged a trip to Cowbridge Library on Wednesday 8th October. This visit will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore books and participate in storytelling sessions. If you are able to assist with supervision on the trip, please do let me know as your help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have any concerns, questions, or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can reach me via email at JonesJ525@hwbcymru.net.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s learning journey.
Warm regards,
Mrs Knill Jones
