Croeso i dudalen y Dosbarth Derbyn. Wecome to the Dosbarth Derbyn Page.

Our Expedition this term is  Happy, Healthy Me. It is a great topic to start the school year with as it gives the children an opportunity to discuss themselves and their families as well as the importance of keeping ourselves happy and healthy.

In Mathematics  and Numeracy the children will be following the Summit Maths scheme of work. They will be learning to match and sort objects and to understand that objects can be sorted in different ways. They will also be learning to compare amounts, size, mass and capacity as well as making simple patterns. The children will be learning to represent and compare numbers 1, 2 and 3 as well as understanding the compposition of numbers and exploring Number Bonds to 5.

In Languages, Literacy and Communication we will provide the children with lots of opportunities in developing their Oracy skills such as expressing their likes and dislikes, talking about themselves and why they are special. We will be using the Role Play Area as a Doctor’s Surgery to encourage communication and language skills. The children will be learning their Phase 2 and 3 sounds on a daily basis and will be provided with opportunities to mark make or write in response to a variety of stimuli on subjects that are of interest to them as well as beginning to produce pieces of emergent writing. Throughout the day, the children will be using and responding to Welsh phrases in authentic contexts.  We will read a variety of Welsh Second Lanuage Books as well as listen to and sing lots of lovely Welsh songs such as ‘Dail Y Coed’ and ‘Dyma Bwgan Brain’.  The children will also learn all about our Welsh culture and heriatage including celebrating Owain Glyndwr and listening to Welsh Myths and Legends.

In our RVE lessons, we will be studying the first panel, “Creation” as part of The Big Frieze. We will individually recreate each picture depicted on the panel and discuss the importnce of each one. Within the panel there are many Bible Stories which we will read throughout the school year.  For our Harvest celebration, the children will paint and describe pictures of what Harvest means to them and will orally compose a class prayer, thanking God for the Harvest. We will also be learning all about Diwali, the Festival of Light and we will look forward to performing our Christmas Nativity.

The children will take part in regular Welly Walks around the school field and will enjoy learning in the outdoors by building dens for woodland animals and learning all about trees, leaves and flowers.
