Spring Term 2026
Winter and Let’s explore
Welcome back! The Spring term is well under way, but I hope you had a lovely Christmas break. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a ‘Happy New Year’ and thank you for the gifts and vouchers. It was very kind of you all.
This term, we will be exploring two exciting topics: “Winter” and “Let’s Explore.”
In “Winter”, the children will investigate the world around them through Science and Technology. They will observe seasonal changes, explore ice and snow, learn how animals stay warm, and experiment with materials to see how they react to cold.
In “Let’s Explore”, the focus is on Humanities, helping children learn about the environments they share with others, including their homes, school, and local community.
We will also be following any celebrations and the children’s own interests throughout the term, ensuring that learning is fun, relevant, and child-led.
This term we will continue to work on phase 2 and phase 3 phonics. We will also be working on our handwriting looking at correct formation of letters and the size of our letters.. If you would like me to show you how to form any letters, please ask. We are using Read write inc rhymes to help us with the formation.
Our PE will continue to be on Tuesday afternoons. Can all children come to school dressed in their PE kit. Please make sure all clothes are labelled clearly.
The children spend a lot of time outdoors so please could you ensure they have a warm coat. Please could all gloves, hats and scarfs be labelled. If possible, could you also keep a spare change of clothing in your child’s bag and return any borrowed clothing items from school.
Could we ask that the children do not bring toys in from home to Reception. Many of the children are getting upset when other children want to play with them or they get lost.
Thank you once again for your support – please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, or concerns.
