Reception Autumn Term 2025

  • Happy Healthy Me – Fi’n Hapus ac yn Iachus – Autumn Term 2025Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to a brand-new school year! I’m really looking forward to teaching the children again this year—it’s lovely to continue the journey with them after Nursery.

This half term, our topic is “What Makes Us Happy?”

We’ll be helping the children learn all about how to keep their bodies and minds healthy and happy. There will be lots of activities to help them think about what makes them smile, what they enjoy doing, and how we can all take care of ourselves.

The children will spend time getting to know their teachers, making new friends, and settling into their new classroom. We’ll talk about our likes and dislikes, our families and friends, and what makes each of us special.

We’ll also be encouraging the children to share their thoughts and ideas, follow their interests, and explore the world around them through play.

    Seesaw

We’ll continue to use Seesaw to share snapshots of your child’s learning and help keep you updated.

    You can:

    • See what your child has been learning throughout the week.
    • Leave comments and celebrate their achievements.
    • Share any photos or activities from home too.

If you have trouble accessing Seesaw, please let us know—we’re happy to help!

    PE

Our PE lesson will take place on Tuesday afternoons.
Please send your child to school in their PE kit that day (navy shorts or

joggers, white polo shirt, and trainers).

There’s no need to bring school uniform on Tuesdays.
Make sure all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

    Voluntary Contributions

To support our learning activities, we ask for a voluntary contribution of £2.50 per week to help with the cost of snacks, cooking, and classroom resources.

For this half term, the total is £20:00, due by 12th September 2025.
Please send the money in a labelled envelope (cash only). Do not use ParentPay.
Let us know of any allergies we should be aware of if you haven’t already.

    Reading

In Reception, we want to help children develop a love of reading—we want it to feel enjoyable, not a struggle!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be gently assessing how well children know their Phase 2 letter sounds and how confidently they can blend and segment simple words. Once they’re ready, they’ll be given a reading book to take home.

Please don’t worry if your child isn’t quite ready yet—every child develops at their own pace.

    For those with reading books:

    • They will be listened to once a week on an assigned reading day.
    • Please keep reading books in a reading folder and bring their books to school everyday.
    • When you read together at home, write a short comment in their reading record.

    Outdoor Learning

We love learning outdoors in Reception, so please make sure your child has a warm, washable coat in school each day.

Also, please keep spare clothes (labelled) in their bag. If we change your child, their dirty clothes will be sent home with a note.
If your child has any toileting needs, please let us know so we can support them.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to pop in and see me or send a message. If your child is unwell or unable to attend, please call the school office.

Thank you for your continued support—I’m so excited for the year ahead!

    Best wishes,
    Mrs Collingridge
    Reception Class Teacher
