Welcome to Year 3

The children have all settled down well into Class 3 and love being in Key Stage 2. They all feel very grown up!

We are very excited about our topic this term which is ‘Children of the Revolution.’

The Victorian era is so interesting and already, we are really enjoying researching what life was like in those days. We have been learning about Queen Victoria and her family. We are looking forward to finding out what it was like to attend a Victorian school and what it was like to be a child in the Victorian times. We will also be learning about important people of the day who influenced and made significant changes.

In Science, we are looking forward to studying water and reversible changes. We will also be investigating habitats and making studies of different minibeasts and their lifecycles. So it’s wellies on and down to the bottom of the field!

In Literacy, we will be examining Roald Dahl’s ‘James and the Giant Peach’ as well as reading stories set in the Victorian era. Written work will include letter writing, newspaper reports, diary accounts, explanation writing, persuasive writing and creative writing. Wow! We are going to be busy! We will also be looking at grammar and spelling because that’s very important too.

In Numeracy, we will be using multiples of 5 and 10 bonds to 100 to solve additions and subtractions and adding and subtracting 1-digit numbers to and from 2 digit numbers. We will also be comparing and ordering 2- and 3- digit numbers; counting on and back in 10s and 1s; adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers and solving problems using place value. We will also be looking at time, shape and money. We can help with the shopping then!

In Class 3 we all love to draw, paint, model and make a collage. This term we will be looking at the work of T.S Lowry and William Morris and trying to paint in their style.

When our parents came in to our class we all made some special things for Queen Victoria’s tea party including new clay crowns. We think the Mums and Dads would have liked to stay all day!
We are learning Welsh through games, songs, story books and conversation work. We are all looking forward to being Helpwr Heddiw as it’s like being a teacher and you wear a special badge.

We are really enjoying our P.E lessons. We have gymnastics on a Wednesday and ball skills on a Friday. We are developing sequences using the apparatus and have had some very competitive games of Dodgeball!

This term we will be celebrating Harvest through our Thanksgiving service in St Cattwg’s Church in Pendoylan and the term will culminate with our Christmas celebrations.

As you can see, this term is going to be action packed, as together, we learn new skills and knowledge whilst having lots of fun and happy times.
